Michael Groom is a Professional Speaker and mountain climber and is unquestionably one of the world’s greatest'big mountain climbers.
In 1995 he became the fourth person in the world to climb the four highest mountains without the assistance of bottled oxygen and in 1999 he successfully climbed Makalu, the smallest but for Michael, the last of the 'big five' - the five highest mountains in the world. Makalu, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, K2 and Everest - Michael climbed them all without the assistance of bottled oxygen, and all but Kangchenjunga he climbed without the front third of both feet.
Michael shares his wealth of knowledge and first hand experiences as a Motivational Speaker. Michael has assisted soldiers going off to war, supported athletes struggling to come back from serious injury and with his powerful story of human endurance he has advised professional people how to get closer to the truth of "no pain no gain".
He is also available to speak to any group who would like to hear his amazing story.

We were looking for someone to inspire, motivate, and captivate our team and Michael offered all of these things and much more through his amazing speech, I highly recommend Michael to motivate your team with his absolutely incredible story. Everyone in his audience is guaranteed to be inspired. We were……twice!
Australian adventurer & Author
His commitment to his goals is a dominant theme in what is a very inspiring book and yet he is in no way a salesman for self improvement…..He preaches only by example

National Head Coach, Swimming Australia
Michael's achievements are nothing short of inspirational. His delivery captured every member of the 2008 Australian Swimming Team from the first sentence until the last word. I think everyone in the room will remember Michael for a very long time.
Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific
He is a wonderful speaker who humbly tells his powerful story touching everyone in the room; I am now in the unenviable position of having to come up with an equally powerful speaker for our next conference. How do you top Michael Groom?
Principal, Fingal Head Public School 2011
The day was an enormous success. As per Michael's request, we kept the nature of his visit quiet from the participants. You could almost see lightbulbs turning on over people's heads as they realised who he was! The pictures and visual aides were top notch, his spoken presentation impeccable and his professionalism was fantastic. Our visitors really enjoyed the extra time that he took to meet and and greet, at the end of his session.
Professional Footballer Western Bulldogs
As our team attempts to climb our own Everest (An AFL Premiership) I thought it was great timing to get someone who has not only been there but did it in the hardest of fashions, without oxygen and ten toes. For our group it was a story much like our own. A lot of planning followed by executing that plan and then having to deal with the insurmountable odds and obstacles that pop up at nearly every turn. Not one player had to deal with some of the odds that Michael had to. Funny not one player complained for another month at our training or game soreness after listening to Michael's journey. While Michael has been a friend for some years now it is his journey that still makes me realise just about anything is doable and within our reach.
Business Development Officer Logan City Council
Michael Groom spoke at the BDS Logan City Sports Awards on Wednesday 22 nd October 2008. Michael's speech was truly inspirational and shows how sheer will and determination to pursue one's dream can be achieved. You could have heard a pin drop in the 400+ audience and the standing ovation was well deserved for his remarkable achievements in conquering the highest mountains in the world and surviving numerous ordeals. Thanks again for your inspirational speech.
Brand Manager Merck Sharp & Dohme Australia
Many thanks for attending the Merck and Schering Plough Business Meeting across the two days on February 5th and 6th, 2008. The stories you shared with the group were certainly received very positively. Our objectives were met as our sales force were inspired and motivated after listening to the stirring accounts of your efforts in reaching your goals. It was also fantastic to have you mix with all of us during the breaks as the positive impact you had on the group was reinforced even more when individuals had the opportunity to join you in conversation and exchange personal stories. I've listed a few comments below from the feedback collected from the audience:"fabulous, amazing, uplifting, inspiring, brilliant" "very moving presentation and relevant to what we are trying to achieve" "excellent, very passionate" We also asked the audience to rate the sessions during our meeting between 1 and 10. Your session rated the highest out of all the sessions with 80% giving you a score of 10, and the remaining 20% a score of 9! Amazing!!! So thank you again for spending some time with us and I hope that we cross paths again in the future.

Hayes Knight Chartered Accountants
I previously heard Michael speak at the Awards Dinner for the Management Excellence Awards conducted by the Australian Institute of Management on the Sunshine Coast last year. His presentation on that occasion was so outstanding and inspirational that when I was tasked to consider potential keynote speakers for Hayes Knight National Conference I immediately thought of Michael. This is not a decision I regret, as once again he drew the audience into the world of extreme mountaineering, leaving them in awe of his achievements, persistence and drive. He tells his amazing tale in such a down to earth and humble way that those listening are left to wonder at the seemingly insurmountable challenges he has overcome. He is clearly a man who has found true contentment through achieving the long-term goals he had set himself, and is now comfortable to step back from the edge to enjoy the simpler pleasures of life. I would have no hesitation in using Michael’s services again and would commend him to anyone who wants a speaker to inspire and motivate their audience, by taking them on a journey most of us will only dream about

I have used Michael Groom previously so I knew exactly what to expect. As in the previous case he was fantastic! He is a wonderful speaker who humbly tells his powerful story touching everyone in the room. He was the highlight of the conference. In our internal evaluation process 78% rated him excellent 16% rated him very good. This result far out shone all other aspects of the conference. I am now in the unenviable position of having to come up with an equally powerful speaker for our next conference. How do you top Michael Groom?
Stormwater 2016 National Conference
I recently had the opportunity to secure Michael as the closing keynote of the Stormwater 2016 National Conference - the last presenter after 4 days and more than 120 presentations. As our conference theme was "Rising to the Challenge" I hoped that his closing presentation would inspire the delegates before they returned home after 4 gruelling days. However, what I experienced was something much more. After 10 years working with the client, my experience of 25 years in this industry, and having worked with thousands of speakers, Michael's presentation will definitely something special. His presentation was flawless, his story mesmerizing and the feedback from my delegates has been simply incredible - many saying this was the best presentation they have ever seen in 10 years of Stormwater Conferences. I personally walked away with the message that nothing is impossible. Being able to experience Michael's presentation was most definitely one of the highlights of my professional career. It was a true privilege.
Toshiba Australia 2017
I've seen many inspirational presentations, from people with much larger public profiles, but not one of them has come close to what Michael Groom presented at our recent client event. To be in the presence of someone who has climbed the 5 highest peaks on the planet, including Mt Everest 2 times was a compelling and tantalising opportunity for our invited guests and staff. And Michael did not disappoint a single person with his presentation. Without an ounce of pretence, Michael articulated with the assistance of inspirational and at times jolting imagery how a 5 year old boy achieved his dream to stand atop the highest mountain on earth. It was story telling at its absolute best, with plenty of drama and humour to keep the audience engaged. Michael was also incredibly generous with his time afterwards, happy to answer questions and pose for selfies with the guests. It was a privilege to have Michael Groom as our guest presenter, a truly inspirational man.
2017 Stormwater Victoria Conference
Michael was a humble and engaging speaker with an inspirational story.\r\n\r\nWhile climbing the world’s highest mountains may not be for everyone, his story of perseverance and tenacity in an extremely dangerous environment will stick with me.
